3v3 Tournament!

 Hello,

Our reading this week was all about communitys, What makes a community and how can communities help us. We were also focusing on the beatitudes. Our goal was: Making Connections and Synthesising. First we read a "Be" poem. Which was realted to the beatitudes. Then we read about a Man who lives alone for 32 years in a island.

For the create me and my friend Jasper made a DLO about a Social event that we could do. It also had to have a reasoning about how to would make a community happier. Ours makes everyone happier because everyone will be having a good time and we will come closer because you have to work together. Here it is.

Would you come to our event?

What Shapes are in your house?

 Hello,

This week for Maths we were learning about 2D and 3D shapes. Our Goal was: identify and sort two and three dimensional shapes into classes, defining properties and justifying the decisions made. We talked about Parallel lines which are lines that never touch. Like a Rectangle has 2 sets of Parallel lines. The top and the sides. For the create task we had to name shapes in our house. And we had to name how many Sides, Faces, Parallel sides, Edges and Vertics. Here it is.

How to draw a cute little Piggy.

 Ki Ora,

This week for reading we learned about instructions. Reading and Writing were linked this week. Our goal was Purpose of reading - to understand, to think differently. We talked about when it is ok to skim and scan and when it is ok to read the whole thing. When you are baking something or doing instructions you need to read the whole thing or your final product won't be a nice. But if your wanting to decided on 2 books you just skim and scan.

For the create we had to follow these inscrutctions but when didn't know what they were for. Here are the ones I followed.

Here is what I got.

For our Writing we had to write a set of instructions. that were less than 150 words and less than 8 steps. I made my instructions on how to draw a cute little piggy that I learned how to draw in year 3. It is really simple but is fun and it looks so good if done well. Anyways here it is.
Did you get a Piggy?

My top 3 hobbies in the future.

 Hello,

This week for reading we kept focusing on being happy. But we learned about how hobbies make you happy. I think they make you happy because they distract you from things that may be affecting your happiness. I also think you don't have to be good at your hobby as long as you enjoy doing it. For the create we had a few options but I chose to do the one where you make up 3 hobbies for the future. Here it is.
Would you do my hobbies?

Do you know your Maps?

Hello,

This week for Maths we learned about Maps, Compasses and grid references. Our Goal was communicate and interpret locations and directions, using compass directions, distances, and grid references. It was basically just like battle ships how you call out "A3"! For the create you hat 2 options. I went with number 2. It was to create a map and give questions with it. Here it is.

Could you get my questions?

Just call me Rickey Baker.

 Hello,

This week for writing we talked about all kinds of different poems. The 4 we learned were a Haiku, Rhymed Poem, Riddle Poem and a Shape Poem. A Haiku has 3 lines. The first line must have 5 syllabes. Then the 2nd line must have 7 syllables and the last one was 5 syllabes. A Rhymed Poem is simple it just has to rhyme, then a riddle poem is when you describe something but don't actually say what it is. And a shape poem is when the lines are twisted to shape into what your talking about.

I did  a Haiku about summer. So you could basically just call me Ricky Baker from Hunt for the Wilder people. Here it is.

Have you seen Hunt for the Wilder People?

Ethan Explains Maths.

 Hello,

This week for Maths we did some fractions questions we learned how to find a fraction from a fraction. You just have to times the number. So if we were finding out what 3/4 of 2/6 were we just do 3 x 2 = 6. 4 x 6 = 24. So the answer would be 6/24 which can be simplified to 1/4. For the create we had to record ourselves answering 2 questions. Also we had to make our own. Here is mine.

How would you work mine out?

NEVER GIVE UP!

 Hello,

This week in reading we have been learning about mindset. We learnd about the 2 different mindsets. Growth and fixed. A growth mindset is when you keep trying at something no matter how hard it is or how much times you have failed at it. Then there is a fixed mindset. They give up after 1 failed attemetmp. They think they can do nothing.

Then we had to pick a person in life the showed a growth mindset. I pick the NBA Isaiah Thomas. First we need to talk about how Isaiah was only 5 foot and 9 inches tall. The average NBA player is 6'7 and the average player at his position is 6'1. So we was shorter than everybody. But that didn't stop him. Then Isaiah got drafted by the Sacromento Kings in the last pick of the draft. He got drafted 60th of 60. He played a few seasons and got traded to Boston where he went wild. Got 4th in MVP voting and that wasn't even the best bit about the season. Ealir in the year Isaiah's Sister Chyna Thomas died in a car crash. Then when it was meant to be her 23rd birthday Isaiah drop 53 points on the exact day. He must of just had such a growth mindset. He was dertemind to get to the top.

For the DLO we had to think about our learning and what our biggest takeaway was. Mine was to have grit through everything so I made a little video about my Guinea pigs and how they show Grit. Here it is.

When have you had to show Grit through something?

The final task was a DLO. Let me show you.

Tweeting all about it.

 Welocome back,

This week for writing our goal was Write in structured, well developed paragraphs that flow well from one to the next within the text. We had to fix up our Goldilocks story and add some subheadings. We had to use this picture to help us.

Here is the bit I have changed I added the sub heading and also I added some emojis and better hashtags. The first tweet is about someone who is scared. Informal, the second one is someone who feels bad for the bears. Formal, and lastly the 3rd tweet is about someone who isn't happy with the police. Informal. The intent was to make my article look cooler like it is online. Here is it.

Tweeting about it

@MatureMonkey44: How am I supposed to swing around my trees when that PEST is on the loose? Totally Not Cool. 👎😞
#Creep in the streets
#Kick the youth
#90’s rule

@GrandmaBear: I feel so sorry towards my little son and his son. All prayers to them. I never had to deal with this in my day. Anyways my podcast will be starting back up next Tuesday and I would love it if you could attend.
#We pray🙏
#R.I.P🧟

@SheepSheran21: Just heard about the news, I really don’t like what the police are doing to handle this, expect better from them. We know this has been happening for ages and now it just goes even worse. Get it together.
#Do better😖😖😖😖
#Police trash

What would you tweet?

4 Year Old buys $3500 of ice cream!

Hello,

This week for reading our goal was Select from a wide range of genre when reading independently. We had to go to and pick 3 articles from Kiwi kids news that were from 3 different genres. Then we had to read them and write our thoughts about it. Also we had to rewrite the headline. The cool thing we did this week was there was no DLO's.

Title: 4 Year Old buys $3500 worth of ice cream! - Genre: Interest articles.

I think this is funny and sad at the same time. Like how do you let a 4 year old who has Autism on a computer by himself. Also how did you know the address of his aunties house. But luckily people and giving money to the fundraiser. Some shapes that are in this book are. If I could make the title I would change it to : "$3500 worth of Ice Cream bought but by not who you would think."

Title: Blackcaps into Test Championship Final - Genre: Sport

For me being a cricket fan and liking the blackcaps I quite enjoy how we are in the final. As the time I am writing this it is the 2nd to last day and it is looking like it will be a draw. But it is good how we made it. I would change the title to "Blackcaps get rematch and Lords after World cup lost"

Title: Tornado hits South Auckland - Genre: Weather, National

I give all my prayers to the residents that have had to deal with loved ones being lost or their homes being ruined. I can't believe what I would do if  that happened to me and my family. But what the government is doing is great and I fully respect it. I would change to title to " Tornado Smacks down in Auckland.

Could you eat that much Ice Cream?

Reading W7

 Hello,

This week for reading we did matariki. We read an aritcle about if Matariki should be a public holiday. If you don't know what Matariki is it's basically a cluster of 9 stars that starts the Maori new year. It is a time of celebrating  with family and friends. Our Goal was : Identify some text events and features, and discuss what they make the reader think about. Our DLO was to make a star and at every point and in the middle write if we think Matariki should be a public holiday. Here is mine.

Do you think Matariki should be a Public Holiday?

Areas, Perimters and too much math to handle!

 Hello ,

You know this week we had HEAPS OF GOALS. And when I say heaps I mean HEAPS! Like these were our goals. use side or edge lengths to find the perimeters of rectangles, parallelograms, and triangles. Use a variety of strategies to calculate the area of rectangles, parallelograms, and triangles. Use side or edge lengths to find the volumes of cuboids. Use appropriate scales, devices, and metric units for weight (mass) and to accurately measure length. Convert between metric units, using whole numbers and commonly used decimals.

That was alot. We had to do a bunch of questions. Then for the create task we had to make a little course that will be in Top Team. Top team is a big thing that has heaps of Courses. My Course is a 3 legged race which you have to run around cones and drop off a person. We had to figure out the Perimter and Area of the Course here is mine and my friends.

Our Area is 24 meters and our Perimteter is 20 meters.
A cone is every 2 meters.
There is two teams.
Would you wanna play our game?

Diary of a SUPER SWIMMER.

 Hello and Welcome back,

This week for Reading we did not have any goals to tick off. We had to pick a fiction book (Which means its fake.) and do a charater web on it. A charater web is like a spiderweb. You put the main charaters name in the middle and then the supporting cast around them. You  have to write a little blurb about what they dod in the book and an adjective to go with their name.We go to pick out of a novel, Graphic novel or a short story. I picked a short story/comic.

It was called "Diary of a Super Swimmer." It is about a boy named Marcus who can't do any sports but his Dad belives he can. So he signs him up for a swim team. Marcus struggles alot with his swimming and isn't enjoying it. But his family makes him keep going. He does his first race and goes bad, but he the next week we works harder and has another race. Does he win it? Does he embarrass himself? You have to read the book yourself.

Have you ever done a Charater web?

FANTASTICS!!!

 Hello,

This week for reading we had to read an article about something and tried to find the Fantastics, Grammaristics and Boomtastics from them. If you don't know what they are I'm here to tell you. Firstly the were made by Jade Considine. They are a wiritng stratergy to make your peice better. The Fantastics include of: Feeling, Asking, Noticing, Touching, Asking, Smelling, Tasting, Imagining and Checking. As you can see the first letter of each of them speel and Fantastics. Each Fantastic is used for different types of writing. Now the Grammaristics and Boomtastics are different. They don't spell out their own name. They include different feauters such as Rhyme, Paragrpahs and other things. My article was about a person coming  to speak about Maori language and how you can get involed. Here is my DLO.

Have you ever used the Fantastics?

My Turangawaewae

Hello, this week for writing we had 2 goals. They were plan effectively, where appropriate, using a variety of strategies and use “show not tell” when appropriate. We had to think about where we our Turangawaewae is and write about it. But the challenge was we couldn't say the name of it. Here is mine, try guess where it is.

You walk into a fresh field as the birds start singing and the sun welcomes you in. You see 2 teams play a game of rugby. But the only team scoring tries is wearing Green and Black. You start to play and you love it. Scoring Tries and putting on hits. You end the game with chips and cheers. You lie down and dig into your chips and coke. You hear your mates yelling. “Chug Chug Chug!” You finished your chips and decided to leave. The Flag smiles and waves you goodbye. Now you know what the bullring feels like.

Where do you think it is? (I'll Give you a hint, I live in Christchurch.)

The Biggest Amusement Park IN THE WORLD. PT1

 Hello and Welcome Back,

Hello everyone this is our road it 100 BLOG POSTS. This is blog number 98 so very soon 100 blogs will be on my account. Anyways this week for reading we had to read about Christchruch and how we came back after the massive earthquake we had back in 2011. The first book I read was called reabuilding Christchurch with amazing ideas. It was mainly about how there was a competition in Christchurch to see who could make the best building that Christchruch might need. Some year 7 Girls won it with a dome. The 2nd book was called life in NZ. It was about how we evoled and how we separated from Gondwana. How animals evoled and adapdet. We had to right some points about it. Heres mine.

Rebuilding Christchurch with amazing ideas
Girls made a dome with Koru sticking out
Some Girls won a contest about a building for Christchurch
Domes are safer than square buildings
The Dome they made had a playground
It was made so people can come together
Eco friendly
Cafe was made out of adobe so it would make the heat passive

Life as NZ
New Zealnad was all animals before Humans came
Some plants and animals are only found in NZ
There was 2 different contetins: Gondwana and Laurasia before the split
Alot of animals had to adapt like Peguins (thick layers)
The Tuatara is one of the only animals that stayed for ages
The Tuatara barely changed from 200 million years ago
The Moa wouldn’t fly because it had big legs and big bodys
It also had a great smell and it was like a deer
The Weta grew to around 10cm
It was very similar to a mice
It is one of the heaviest insects in the world
Plants had to get scarer so they wouldn’t get eatan by the Moa
Even though the Kakapo is slow and couldn’t fly it was a serious predator
The Kakapo had great eye vision
Animals died after Humans came because of climate change

Next week we will be creating our own building or place that Christchurch should have. So me and my mate Lucas are doing a Water park / Amusement park.

What would you want to add to Christchurch and why?
