How to draw a cute little Piggy.

 Ki Ora,

This week for reading we learned about instructions. Reading and Writing were linked this week. Our goal was Purpose of reading - to understand, to think differently. We talked about when it is ok to skim and scan and when it is ok to read the whole thing. When you are baking something or doing instructions you need to read the whole thing or your final product won't be a nice. But if your wanting to decided on 2 books you just skim and scan.

For the create we had to follow these inscrutctions but when didn't know what they were for. Here are the ones I followed.

Here is what I got.

For our Writing we had to write a set of instructions. that were less than 150 words and less than 8 steps. I made my instructions on how to draw a cute little piggy that I learned how to draw in year 3. It is really simple but is fun and it looks so good if done well. Anyways here it is.
Did you get a Piggy?

Just call me Rickey Baker.

 Hello,

This week for writing we talked about all kinds of different poems. The 4 we learned were a Haiku, Rhymed Poem, Riddle Poem and a Shape Poem. A Haiku has 3 lines. The first line must have 5 syllabes. Then the 2nd line must have 7 syllables and the last one was 5 syllabes. A Rhymed Poem is simple it just has to rhyme, then a riddle poem is when you describe something but don't actually say what it is. And a shape poem is when the lines are twisted to shape into what your talking about.

I did  a Haiku about summer. So you could basically just call me Ricky Baker from Hunt for the Wilder people. Here it is.

Have you seen Hunt for the Wilder People?

Tweeting all about it.

 Welocome back,

This week for writing our goal was Write in structured, well developed paragraphs that flow well from one to the next within the text. We had to fix up our Goldilocks story and add some subheadings. We had to use this picture to help us.

Here is the bit I have changed I added the sub heading and also I added some emojis and better hashtags. The first tweet is about someone who is scared. Informal, the second one is someone who feels bad for the bears. Formal, and lastly the 3rd tweet is about someone who isn't happy with the police. Informal. The intent was to make my article look cooler like it is online. Here is it.

Tweeting about it

@MatureMonkey44: How am I supposed to swing around my trees when that PEST is on the loose? Totally Not Cool. πŸ‘ŽπŸ˜ž
#Creep in the streets
#Kick the youth
#90’s rule

@GrandmaBear: I feel so sorry towards my little son and his son. All prayers to them. I never had to deal with this in my day. Anyways my podcast will be starting back up next Tuesday and I would love it if you could attend.
#We prayπŸ™
#R.I.P🧟

@SheepSheran21: Just heard about the news, I really don’t like what the police are doing to handle this, expect better from them. We know this has been happening for ages and now it just goes even worse. Get it together.
#Do betterπŸ˜–πŸ˜–πŸ˜–πŸ˜–
#Police trash

What would you tweet?

My Turangawaewae

Hello, this week for writing we had 2 goals. They were plan effectively, where appropriate, using a variety of strategies and use “show not tell” when appropriate. We had to think about where we our Turangawaewae is and write about it. But the challenge was we couldn't say the name of it. Here is mine, try guess where it is.

You walk into a fresh field as the birds start singing and the sun welcomes you in. You see 2 teams play a game of rugby. But the only team scoring tries is wearing Green and Black. You start to play and you love it. Scoring Tries and putting on hits. You end the game with chips and cheers. You lie down and dig into your chips and coke. You hear your mates yelling. “Chug Chug Chug!” You finished your chips and decided to leave. The Flag smiles and waves you goodbye. Now you know what the bullring feels like.

Where do you think it is? (I'll Give you a hint, I live in Christchurch.)

Speech final part

 Hi ya,

This is the last week that we worked on our speeches. They had to be done by Friday but I was a good boy and I finished. Here is my favourite paragraph. It is part of the Big Finish part. I choose this paragraph because I put in a quote and an inspirational thing, I hope you enjoy.

We can complete this goal, we can stop bad health care. You're the shepherd, we are the sheep so lead us into the right path and remember you can’t enjoy your wealth if you don’t have good health.

What do you think of it?

Mental health part 2

 Were back again,

Hello we have keep doing to speech. This week we looked at the goals damage caused, challenge and specific problem. Here is mine so far.

Speech
Why don’t all people get the same treatment?
Why is it that some people get sick but they can’t get treated?

You would be horrified to know 6 million children around the world die under the age of 5 each year. Let’s pretend 2 Babies were born, 1 in poverty and the other one in a healthy life. Now I don’t think you want to know that the baby in Poverty is twice as likely to die under the age of 5.

In 2017 only 1 third of people around the world were covered by the health service. That's 5 billion that didn’t have health service for when they needed it.

Now with Covid 19 it has separated the rich and poor apart. Putting some people in bankruptcy or poverty. Can you imagine what would happen in 20 years if you didn't stop it now? Your kids and your grandkids might not get the treatment they need. We have already done a good job so far, since 1990 17, 000 less kids die each year.

I want to get deeper into the problem, I’m looking at how we can keep the death rate of children under 5 lower. Like I said before 6 million kids under the age of 5 die each year. Now this is a world problem, but the main source of it comes from Sub-Saharan Africa and Central and Southern Asia. With over 80% of deaths from 2018 when they only have 52%  of children under the age of 5 is not ok.

Do you like this so far?

Why don’t all people get the same treatment?

HI,

This week for writing we were looking at Mental health and wellbeing. We had to pick out of 4 things and I choose Mental health. Here are some facts and Rhetorical questions I thought  were good. Here they are,

Hard Hitting Facts Goal 3
17,000 less children die each day than in 1990
6 million children die each year under the age of 5
In the past 20 years measles vaccines have killed over 15.6 million people
More women are receiving antenatal care. In developing regions, antenatal care increased from 65 per cent in 1990 to 83 per cent in 2012
As of 2013 2.1million people between the ages of 10 - 19 have HIV

Rhetorical questions
How would you feel if you're sick and homeless?
How would you feel if you were sick but there was nothing to do about it?
Would you teach others about drugs and alcohol?
Why don’t all people get the same treatment?

Are you doing speeches?

Hansel and Gretal part 2

We are doing Hansel and Gretal part 2

So last week we discussed Hansel and Gretel eating the house so here is part 2.

Out of nowhere a quirky little lady was wobbling over to Hansel and Gretel like a duck. When she was getting closer it came to Hansel and gretel that she was in her 80s. She caught them by surprise when she freaked out.
“ What are you little kids doing.”
There she was with her baggy old cheeks hanging from her face. She had a hunchback.  A handbag in one hand and a walking stick in her other like she was going to hit them. She just stood there looking at them waiting for an answer back. Then Hansel and Gretel Squealed.
“We eating some candy filling up our Bellies”
“Do you want some more”? Ask the old lady.
“Yes please”
So the old lady wobbled over to the candy house and grabbed a Sugary snack for them to eat. Some sour worms.
“This old lady has now had the biggest hunchback I have ever seen in the world, and she is just standing there watching us eat our candy while she’s grinning.” Hansel spoke scared.

What do you think will happen next?

Hansel and Gretal.

Welcome back to my blog,

This week for Writing we had looked at the story of Hansel and Gretel. We also go taught about the Fantastic. But I will teach you that in my reading blog. For the create task we had to write some sentences about Hansel and gretal. Here it is.

The sugary sweets scent shifted up to Hansel and Gretal noses. In a matter of seconds the 2 poor children were consumed with the smell. They Froze. They forze drooling. They froze, drooling and dreaming until the smell drove deeper into the woods. They continued to waddle in the never ending freaky forest. Every step was as crunchy as eating chips. Every tree was smothered in moss. The more they walked, the more lost they were.

“I’m Horrified Hansel.” Mumbled Gretal.
“ Don’t worry everything will be ok.” Replied Hansel even though deep down he knew that their parents didn't want them. Then something magically stood before them. A very sturdy candy floss house. They knew that the house was off limits, but the popcorn was dripping with butter. They still didn’t go in. They knew they couldn’t lick the house but the Jelly bean pit was screaming at them. They took one step then the hoof of freshly baked chocolate chip cookie.

Have you ever heard of Hansel and Greatal?

Look alike

Hi,

This week for writing my goal was to use language features specific to the purpose of the text. We made a short story and had to include some similes, Metaphors, Personification and Onomatopoeia. This is what they mean:
Similes - Comparing 2 things using like or as.
Metaphors - Comparing 2 things not using like or as.
Personification - Giving an object or an Animal human traits
Onomatopoeia - A sound like Boom or Crash Here is mine hope you enjoy.

Look alike The Bus came to a complete stop. It was like a Trex because of the size of it. Out came Melina, Shawn and Alma. Waiting for them on the other side was Will. “ Took you long enough.” Will sighed. “Oh be pipe down would ya.” Shawn chuckled. They all laughed. The four of them were going to a water park. They made their way to the swimming pool. At the checkout while they were paying there was a weird look on the person's face. It was like they just won a million dollars. “ Hi Zendaya so lovely that you could come here.” She said. “ Zendaya?” They all questioned. Yeah Melina looked a bit like her but how could you get them mixed up. They got changed and went outside. As they were putting on sunscreen a crowd of people surrounded them. “ Don’t tell me these people think you're Zendaya as well.” Will moaned. “Take a photo with me.” “I love you.” The crowd went BOOM. It felt like that grass was pulling them down. Next thing you saw the real Zendaya came out with her agents following behind her. They had only been at the park for like 20 minutes and already got the real Zendaya here. Zendaya was a giant looking over the crowd. Then there was silence. The agents walked right up to the kids and yelled. “ Oi you get here now, I don't know who you are but you're in big trouble.” “ Be quiet Dan.” Zendaya said. “ There was a miscommunication that let the kids go. Sorry for the trouble guys, you can come with us for the weekend.” “YES PLEASE!” They yelled with excitement.

Can you find the Similes, Metaphors, Personification and Onomatopoeia?

Simple

The sun was burning. The wind was breezy.Carols, Dwayne, Brodie and Rocky were going to have some fun tonight, they knew that they couldn’t get in trouble.  They were going to spend the whole day at the beach. Once they got there they went straight for the crowd of people that were surrounding the clear water throwing beach balls everywhere. But they had to set up afterwards. A coconut fell from a tree and hit Rockeys toe although it hurt him he did not cry. They lied down and just chilled for a while. But soon they got Hungry. Carols got some hot chips for everybody, although Dwayne didn’t eat them.

Meet Ralph

For writing we had to create an imagine in the readers head about a character. For the create task we had to write some sentences about a made up character and had to decide if it is a negative or a positive relationship. Here's mine about a kid named Ralph.

Ralph is very naughty. He doesn’t care about anyone or anything that isn't himself. When his Mum asks him to do things he always replies with. “Meh.” Ralph is very rich and flexes it alot. He makes fun of people that aren't as rich as him. One day when he was rolling around on his electric chair he stumbled upon a weird box. It said do not OPEN. But because of how nosey Ralph is he opened it. Inside was a ring, the ring magically transformed on to his finger. Then he turned into a monster.

Narrative writing.

This week for writing we had to do narrative writing. We got a template for a plan. For the plan we had to say if it is negative or positive. Then we had to start writing I am not finished my story yet but I will show you by Plan and my first Paragraph. Here is my plan.

Here is my first Paragraphs.

“Dom HURRY UP!” Yelled Owen.

“ I’ll be there when I’m there!” Aggressive replied Dom.

Stella was packing all the bags in the car. They were going to their Nana's house. But the 3 kids Dom, Owen and Stella were taking the Bus there. Their parents were going to drop them off. When they got to the Bus station they could see the dark gloomy clouds looking over them. It looks terrifying.

“ Do you have everything?” Mum asked for the a millionth time.

“YES.” The 3 kids moaned.

Have you ever wrote a narrative?

Story time

Hi Blogger,
This week for writing we focused on Narrative writing. Narrative writing is all about entertaining the reader. We watched some videos on how to write a Narrative. It goes orentaion, problem and then a souliton. Then for the create task we had to write a narritve. I did mine about some creatuers coming out of a portal. Here is mine hope you enjoy.

Creatures from the deep.
Walking back from School Liam and Chris were discussing how they were going to stay up all night. Chris was going over to Liam's house tonight. Liam and Chris were very different. Liam was careful and Chris a wild goose. But they were still friends.

Once they got home Liam’s Father ran to them with excitement and siad. “ Do you boys want to see something cool?” Liam wasn't interested. Chris said yes politely. Liam’s Dad was a scientist. He took them to his lab across the Street. Inside there was a machine. “ This was supposed to be an automatic food maker but we stuffed up and now we don’t know what this is.” “When will we find out?” Quickly Liam asked. “We won’t, so us 3 are going to destroy it tomorrow.” Answered the Dad.

Around 5 minutes later when they got home they jumped in the pool. Dinner tonight was Spaghetti bolognese, Chris’s favorite. When it was bedtime Liam snuck in some snacks. Everything was fine until they heard terrifying sounds from the Lab across the street. Liam’s Dad went to go to investigate but just after a couple minutes he came out screaming following him were 3 creatures.

A Dragon, a Werewolf and a Yeti. They didn’t attack though. Some neighbors saw and got freaked out so they called the FBI. Then Just like that there were cops, army members and FBI agents. As they were loading up some shots Liam and Chris ran inside to turn the machine off. Yes someone had left it on. So as the Dragon, Yeti and Werewolf were getting sucked in there were rapid fire shots everywhere including grenades and RPGs. Finally when the creatures were back in the portal the cops blew it up and Liam and Chris were heros.

The reason behind a Biography

Welcome back to my blog.
This week my goal for writing was use language this is appropriate to the topic and purpose. First we looked at the purpose of different types of writing. Some examples are
Argue - to make a statement
Biography - to inform people about someone
Some language features you should use in a Biography are : Only facts, No imagination, Nouns and it is written in past tense. The create task was to name the purpose of a Biography and grab a paragraph form our biographies and show what language features we used in them. We also had to say why we used them. Here is mine hope you enjoy.

I used Nouns because the are really effective when I'm trying to explain my person and where she was born.
The reason I used facts about my person is because you can not lie or make up facts in a Biography.
I wrote my Biography in past tense because I can not predict things in the future and this stuff has already happened.

What's you favourite type of Writing?
